Let me ask you something. If you could do anything, without having to worry about the restrictions of time, money, work, or other obligations, what would you do? Would you travel the world? Sleep in? Spend more time with your family?
Most people go through life on autopilot, without ever stopping to think about what they want.
Sure, many people talk endlessly about all the things they don’t want (traffic, long lines at the post office, slow wifi, parking tickets, and on and on). However, few people actually take the time to dream about what they actually want out of life. So today, I challenge you to do just that.
I challenge you to put aside all the limitations of your current life and just dream.
If you could go anywhere, where would you go? If you could eat anything what would you eat? Who would be beside you on your adventures?
Taking the time to clearly define your ultimate goal will help you tremendously as you work backward to design your ideal life. Without a vision of where you want to go, you’ll wander aimlessly and continue going to work, coming home, cooking dinner, going to bed, and repeating the same day over and over.
Once you have a vision of what you want your ideal life to look like, you can start to break it down and figure out exactly how you can go from where you are right now to making your ideal life a reality.
For example, let’s say your ideal life involves traveling internationally with your family, at least 6 months out of the year.
With this goal in mind, you can start to work backward. If you have young children, you’ll need to consider their schooling options if you’re traveling for half the year. Could you homeschool them? How would that work?
And what about income when you travel? Would you be working remotely, or could you build up enough passive income to sustain your lifestyle without having to work?
Once you have a clear target in mind, it’s much easier to break things down and make that idea lifestyle a reality.
To inspire you, we wanted to share with you the story of Jess Swenson and her family. Several years ago, Jess and her husband started dreaming about taking an extended trip internationally with their 3 kids.
At first, it seemed like a pipe dream. Impossible, given their current life situation. However, as they continued to circle the idea and to shift their mindset from “we could never do that” to “hmm, how could we do that…” they were eventually able to make it a reality.
That’s right, they took their 3 kids (all under age 10) on an epic year-long adventure around the world, hitting up incredible locales like Bali, Australia, Zimbabwe, and much more.
In this video, we sit down with Jess to learn all about her adventures, all the planning and #momxieties that went into it, how they were able to fund the trip, how they dealt with their kids’ schooling along the way, advice Jess has for other families hoping to plan a similar trip, and much more.
Whether your ideal lifestyle involves international travel with kids or just being able to be at home with your children while still building passive income and wealth for your family, the first step is to clearly define your ultimate goal.
Once you have that target in mind, you can start to work backward and figure out each piece, one at a time.
